TIA and Stroke Clinic

The aim of this clinic is:

1. Screen and treat those at risk for TIA/Stroke. Possible ways of preventing these events from occurring are: blood pressure control; treatment of increased blood fats (cholesterol), diagnosing and treating heart rhythm abnormalities, such as Atrial Fibrillation, checking blood sugars and giving advice on lifestyle changes.
2. Those who suffered TIAs will have extensive investigations including heart and brain scans and a scan to see if there is a narrowing of the blood vessels in the neck (carotid arteries), which is the cause of many TIAs. 
3. Those who suffered a stroke will have their treatments reviewed and optimised. This can be done as an inpatient and outpatient.

All of the above will be done in a holistic manner, taking into account patient's other medical conditions. Medications will be prescribed with the careful consideration of possible drug-drug interactions and side effect profiles. This is particularly important while prescribing anti-coagulant (blood-thinning) medicines like Warfarin.
